Fourteen years, and still the one we wait for. High in Costa Rica’s Tarrazú Valley, the land gives nothing away. The terrain is steep, the air thins as you climb, and the coffee trees grow on slopes between 1,200 and 1,800 meters above the sea. Caturra and Typica have grown here for generations, slowly, in the cool mountain air. That is where Hacienda La Minita sits, and it is where our story with this coffee
begins.
For fourteen years, we have worked with this farm. In that time, we have seen what they do every season: choose carefully, hold themselves to a standard most of us would find exhausting, and refuse to settle. Every year, the coffee is at its very best. That isn’t luck. It’s the result of people who care about selection, quality, and sustainability as if their
name were on every bag, because it is.
The cherries are fully washed and sun-dried, the way they have always been done. The result is what we think of as the classic Costa Rican cup: clean, sweet, and beautifully balanced. Fruit and fine acidity move together in harmony. The body is delicate, the flavors are layered, and the finish stays with you. There is nothing in the cup to get in
the way of enjoying it. In a word, it’s elegant.
It is also a coffee that fits into your day wherever you put it. It’s as good at six in the morning, in the quiet before the house wakes up, as it is at four in the afternoon, when you need a reason to stop for a moment.
But the cup is only half of why we keep coming back.
The people of La Minita look after what surrounds them. The farm protects its land and grows without pesticides. Workers have housing. Every year, the children of La Minita’s employees receive school uniforms and supplies, and the schools in the surrounding community receive support too. Rainforest Alliance certification is the official stamp on
all of this, but you can taste the care in the coffee, too.
So when you brew a cup of La Minita, you are drinking something that has been looked after at every step, from the soil to the schoolchildren whose lives it touches.
The 2026 harvest is here, roasted medium, with a sweet aroma, full body, fine acidity, and a clean aftertaste.
With gratitude for 14 years of this coffee, and for every one of you who has made it a favorite,
Mariana
